Subject: Rally Launch Ollie Kierce Cars Imokilly Motor Club Mini Stages Rally .MEDIA LAUNCH 2019 The media launch for the 2019 Ollie Kierce Cars Imokilly Mini Stages Rally takes place next Monday the 8th of July at 7.00pm at the Midleton Park Hotel, firstly for a photoshoot, then it’s into the hotel where our MC will give a run through the lead up to the event itself, one of the biggest sporting events in East Cork this year. Pat Maguire Clerk of the Course said our club is hugely indebted to Ollie Kierce Cars Carrigtwohill for his support of our event as the main sponsor; I would like to welcome everyone to the launch where there will be a selection of rally cars on display and a chance to meet our main sponsor and our associate sponsors. Pat also said even at this stage there is huge interest in the event and a few Welsh crews have expressed an interest in doing the rally. New IMC Rally merchandise will be available to purchase on the night, that’s Imokilly Mini Stages rally jackets etc also our entries secretary will be there with Regs and Entry forms. We have lost a dear friend and club member Michael Collins. Michael was always helping out and won our Marshall's championship numerous times and he always did so with a smile.
Rest In Peace dear friend. IMC Member Flies in National Navigation Championship James Fitzgerald & Ken Carmody travelled to Monaghon to compete in the Final round of the National Navigation Trials. It was a great event and well run, the night did not go as planned for them because of a few small errors says James. At the end of a Great Season They are delighted to finish 2nd Overall in the National Navigation Championship Trials. In the national section Mark Dolphin and Brian Quinlan in their Red Escort took fight to the top ten of the modified cars and came home 10th in the National section and 4th in class 14. Garry Kelly and Mark Hurley were out in their new Civic and made a great start as they made their intentions clear from stage one, they maintained second in 11F from start to finish with a few quickest class times along the way. Staying in class 11F and Jason Ryan and Peter Keohane were also debuting a new car and they took 3rd in class also setting some quickest class times. In the Rear wheel drive section Mike Murphy and Patsy Cashman were back on the stages and they made a strong showing to hold second in the class 11R all weekend. In the junior Rally which started Sunday Morning, John Joe Williams and Meg Brady finished 6th And 2nd in class 16A in the Ford Escort. Cian Walsh and Derry Long made a good start on their first stage but throttle issues forced them to retire after two stages. Cork (021) 463 4012 Young Imokilly Driver Cian Walsh will Campaign a Toyota Corolla Twin Cam on the Junior section of the (TROA) Tarmac Championship. The Castlemartyr native was brought up around rallying and his father Willie Walsh had some great results over the years in the car that Cian now drives. Cians motorsport endeavors started out on a dirt bike in 2006 he admits himself he wasnt really on the pace but really it was cars he was interested in, so a switch to four wheels in the form of go karting where he competed for 3 years, then he didnt do any motorsport for a few years ,when he reached the age of 14 he got his first hotrod and from there raced with East Cork HotRod club for 5 years. These were great times says Cian and I raced with my friends who have now moved on to rallying also, guys like Aaron McEvoy,Killian o Brien,Anthony o Driscol and John Joe Williams.In the middle of that I talked my father into leaving me do a few Hillclimbs/Rallysprints when I was 17 then in 2018 I competed in the first rally as a navigator with Anthony o Driscoll in West Cork later in the year I finally got to drive my first rally which was Imokilly Mini Stages... my plan for 2019 is to compete in the Junior Irish Tarmac Championship. I suppose while the press release below tells the story the news is that Mikko Hirvonen will drive a MK 2 Escort owned by IMC member Kevin Dolphin , Kevin's left hand drive Escort was the perfect car for the WRC star.
Clonakilty Park Hotel West Cork Rally 2019 Press Release 3 The 2019 Clonakilty Park Hotel West Cork Rally will see one of the most recognisable and popular rally stars of his generation, Mikko Hirvonen set to compete on this year’s event. The Finnish superstar and former Ford works driver will take the wheel of a Ford Escort Mk2 for St. Patrick’s weekend. Mikko helped Ford to manufacturer titles in both 2006 &07 andwas runner up in the World Rally Championship four times behind Sebastian Loeb. He retired from the World Rally Championship scene in 2014 after taking fifteen career victories in the series. In recent years he has competed on rally raids, most notably the Paris-Dakar Rally. Mikko has some Irish tarmac experience having competed on Rally Ireland twice in 2007 &09 as well as the Cork 20 Rally in 2007 which was used as a warm up for Irelands WRC round that year.
