What a weekend in Bantry!!
Many club members were in action in the Westlodge hotel Fastnet Rally 2018!
Jason Ryan and Peter Keohane were in action in the civic and as usual Jason was in top of his game, Their times were quick and consistent all day and they held 2nd in the 1600 challenge from start to finish!
Allen Treacy and Bob Fitzgerald we’re out in their corolla, a poor tyre choice put them on the back foot over the first loop of stages, but after the service they were back on form punching in the times and after a great battle finished third in the RWD 1600 challenge!
A big congratulations must go to Barry Archer and Eugene Cronin who guided their civic through the tough stages to second in the Junior Rally, Barry and Eugene were lucky in ss3 when their gearstick broke but Barry rallied one and got it back to service for a quick repair!
Garry Kelly and Eoin Treacy we’re paired together for the first time on the fastnet, a slow start with a lack of V-Tec on the first stage was quickly rectified by some very quick driving by Garry in Ss2&3 after which they climbed from 4th to 1st in class 1. After stage 7 they were lying in second and finished the day there.
Club Members Mike and Jack Hallahan were out in class 11F. It was Mikes first time driving in a Rally and Jacks first time navigating. A great day out was had by them and they finished 10th in class 11F.
Aaron and Evan McEvoy were out in the Junior category and the two brothers teamed well to to finish 4th!
Tony Roche was navigating for Donal O Connor in the red Mk1 in the historic category but unfortunately mechanical trouble forced them onto rally 2 and eventually to retirement.
Killian OBrien and Peter Walsh we’re out in the Junior category also but a brush with the scenery put them out of the rally on SS3
Kevin McGann was out in his class 2 civic for the second time but unfortunately the tricky mountain roads caught him out on SS 3

James was navigated by Corks Ken Carmody. James and Ken finished on just 32 penalties 9 ahead of the second placed car of Second placed car of Monaghan’s Peter Deery. This puts James and Ken in the lead of both the National and Munster Night Navigation Championships!! |
What a weekend for the Imokilly crews on what can only be described as a brilliant event ran by our friends in MunsterCar Club
The CB Tool Hire Cork 20 International Rally was a rally which had everything packed into two huge days of rallying.
There were plenty club members competing and also Marshalling.
Club member and main sponsor Colin Byrne was out in his green Escort 2.5 and as Saturday progressed he climbed to 4th overall perfectly poised for an attack on the podium positions. Colin made his move on the first stage Sunday morning to jump into 3rd, things were looking good until ss13 on which a brush with the Mullaghanish scenery rendered his escort undriveable, ending his rally.
Emmet Cronin was also in action and was in the hunt for the South east stages championship. Emmet started the event strong and held 2nd in class for most of Saturday, unfortunately on The famous kilnamartyra stage Emmet picked up two punctures which dropped him to third, however as anyone who knows the Cork 20 is aware it’s a marathon not a sprint and Emmet kept punching in the times to eventually climb back to second in class!
Allen Treacy and Eoin Treacy were also out in their class 11R corolla. Allen’s 20th Cork 20 Rally got off to a less than ideal start when a broken engine mounting brought retirement on Stage 1, back in the game for stage 3 Allen and Eoin had a lot of ground to cover to get their rally back on track! Some quick times Saturday saw them climbing back up the class standings and by Saturday evening they held a commanding lead in the class. The lads managed to extend their class lead over the classic Sunday stages!
Garry Kelly was in action in class 22 in the class 1 civic, Garry was having a good run Saturday morning but Saturday evening spelled trouble,
and some electrical trouble caused a slight misfire and then diff trouble forced him to retire. A long nights work however saw Garry return for Rally 2 on Sunday morning and he battled on bringing home 3rd in class.
Danny McEvoy and Aaron McEvoy were another father and son Imokilly crew in action however a broken half shaft on Stage 1 meant they had to rejoin under rally two for Sunday however more trouble on SS5 ended their rally.
Martin O’Brien was in action with Denis Moynihan in the Ford Fiesta R5, Denis and Martin had a good weekend learning the car and won class 20.
Padraig Walsh was competing in the junior Rally in his Corolla however he retired after the 4th stage.
John joe Williams was also in action in the codrivers seat with Derry Long in the Junior Rally however electrical trouble saw them retire early.
Club members Tony an AnneMarie O’Driscoll were doing safety00 duties in their Peugeot 106.
A huge thanks to all the club members who were marshalling over the weekend too!!
