2016 West Cork Rally
Donal McGrath & Brian McCarthy, the leading 2WD Imokilly Motorclub Crew Home (Pic (C) Ted O'Connell)
Heartiest congratulations has to go to Club members Donal McGrath & Co-driver Brian McCarthy in their Toyota Corolla who finished the event 24th overall and were winners of the Tom O'Regan Perpetual trophy. Tom was an esteemed member and dear friend to all of us here at the IMC and who will be forever in our thoughts.
Congratulations must also go to the Father and Son pairing of Micheal & Martin Walsh you steered their Honda Civic to 5th in class in the ultra competitive Class 11F, and also to Barry Archer & Eugene Cronin who after a trouble filled Saturday, brought their bright green Civic to 3rd in class 17. Congratulations also to all other IMC memebers that reached Parc Ferme on Sunday evening to collect their West Cork Rally Mugs, unfortunately for many others the West Cork stages won the battle on this occasion.
Sunday brought the Junior category where two Imokilly Crews took to the start line. Unfortunately for Diarmuid Hallahan & Padraig Walsh it was a short event, getting caught out on gravel on the 1st stage of the day, hitting a ditch and bursting the radiator leading to overheating.
Finally, all of us here at Imokilly Motorclub would like to congratulate Jamie McCarthy & Donagh Hurley, who brought their 106 to a fine 8th O/A in the Juniors on their very first event. Well done lads!

One of the clubs youngest members Eoin took to the navigators seat for his first night navigation rally last Saturday night.
All going well the lads made all of the first 20 time points until they took a wrong turn and missed a few time points they later got back on route and finished making all the latter time points. The boys in the Starlet finished 21st o/a and 5th beginners.
A great start for Eoin and well done to Brian Duggan for giving Eoin his first taste of night navs.

2016 Club Championship Final Standings
Donegal International Rally 2016
Imokilly Motor Clubs sole representatives at this years Donegal International Rally were Donal McGrath & Finbarr Fogarty in the Class 11R Twin Cam Corolla. The lads finished 40th in the National Section and 5th in class. The lads were unfortunately plagued by some mechanical issues on Saturdays final loop of stages, but kept going nevertheless, gaining back the positions they had lost on Sunday. All of us here in IMC would like to say a massive well done to the lads on a great result and well done to Donegal Motor Club on running a fantastic event.
Back to School for Imokilly Motor Club Members
A number of Imokilly Motor Club members recently visited Ballycurrane National School which is along the route of this years Mini Stages. We brought along a rally car and the official start ramp for the rally which was set up in the school car park. Clerk of the Course Derek Power gave a safety briefing to all the kids, many of who's houses are along the rally route. Afterwards everyone got to sit and get their photos taken in the rally car. We would like to express our thanks to Mr Gough and Miss Moroney for being so accommodating and especially to all the kids for all the extremely interesting questions about rallying that they asked. Check out our facebook Imokillyministages for lots of more photos from the school visit.
IMOKILLY MOTOR CLUB CREW SCOOP INAUGURAL TOM O 'REGAN MEMORIAL TROPHY AT WEST CORK RALLY.
Clear blue skies and blazing sunshine were the order of the day last weekend as round 2 of the Clonakilty blackpudding sponsored Irish tarmac rally Championship rolled into the beautiful town of Clonakilty for the West Cork rally. Hosted by Cork Motor Club and ran over 2 days over 200 crews across all the categories took to the start line on the Saturday morning with many of those from the IMC. Saturday would see the stages at Ring, Clogagh, Ballinascarthy, and Newcestown each repeated with service in the grounds of Darrara agricultural college. Sunday would see the action move to the stages at Ardfield, Sams cross and Rossmore. There was agony and ecstasy for many Imokilly Motor Club crews over the very tough and challenging 2 days and 14 special stages. Heartiest congratulation's has to go to Club members Mark Dolphin and co driver Finbarr Quirke in their Ford Escort who finished the event 20th overall and were the inaugural winners of the Tom O Regan Memorial trophy. Tom was an esteemed member and dear friend to all of us here at the IMC and who will be forever in our thoughts. Tom's wife Marion was on hand together with COC Greg Mc Carthy among others to present the awards to both Mark and Finbarr. This award will be presented annually to the top two wheel drive Imokilly Motor Club crew at the West Cork rally. Other IMC members who featured amongst the final results include Donal Mc Grath and co driver Liam Griffin who were 42nd overall and 4th in class 11R. Micheal Murphy and Patsy Cashman 58th overall and 6th in class 11R. Kevin Dolphin and Martin O' Brien 60th overall and 6th in class 2. William Walsh and Carol O Keeffe 67th overall and 7th in class 11R. Micheal and Martin Walsh 77th overall and 8th in class 11F and Anthony O Driscoll and Aaron Mc Evoy who were 87th overall and 6th in class 9. The junior section of the rally joined in with the main field on Sunday morning and and amongst them and making his debut in rallying was Barry Archer competing in his distinctive green Honda Civic. Barry put in a creditable performance finishing 8th in class J2 and 11th overall in the juniors. Well done to all. Unfortunately mechanical failure sidelined many more
IMC crews on the event who were well in contention in each of their respective classes. Finally a special thanks to all the other IMC members who travelled to Clonakilty to either marshal or help out our neighbouring club over the weekend.

The woods around Carrick on Suir in Co.Tipperary were a hive of activity on Sunday last March the 1st as round 2 of the Valvoline National Forest rally Championship rolled into town. 61 crews left the start ramp outside rally HQ the Carrig house hotel and made their way to SS1 Gurteen. Heavy morning rain made conditions very slippery and difficult as the cars made their way into the 13.5 km stage. First of the IMC crews to tackle the stage were Sean W Benskin with Joe Fitzgibbon on the notes. Despite catching another competing car on the stage and losing a few seconds the lads were happy at the stage finish but commented that parts of the stage were very slippy. Next up were Emmett Cronin with Waterford's Kevin Purcell in the hot seat. Emmett was taking his brand newly built pristine Mark 2 Ford Escort for its debut into the woods and set a very good time on the stage. Mount Uniackes Allan Treacy and co driver Brian O'Keeffe started just behind Emmet on the road and despite also finding the stage very slippy were happy with their pace. Unfortunately for Raymond Benskin Snr and co driver Peadar Walsh from Ballycotton mechanical failure near the end of SS1 forced their retirement. SS2 Slievenamon was to prove a very testing stage for all concerned as extensive logging on the stage over the previous few weeks made it extremely muddy and slippy. Once again both Sean and Emmett had both clean runs through the stage and headed onto SS3 the Anner before heading into the service area in the Mill river business Park in Carrick on Suir. A broken half shaft near the start of Slievenamon unfortunately forced the retirement of Allan and Brian. After service it was back out for a repeat of all 3 stages once again but by this time grip levels had improved significantly. Sean and Emmett kept their noses clean through the last loop and when the final times were tallied Emmett and co driver Kevin finished 30th overall and 1st in class 9. Sean and Joe brought their MK11 Ford Escort home 28 overall and 6th in the ultra competitive class 12. Other local East Cork crews who featured strongly amongst the results were Ray Benskin Jnr and co driver Nicky Hegarty who brought home the trophy for 3rd in class 12 and 20th overall. Clashmore's Carol O'Keeffe guided Charlevilles Mick O Sullivan to 23 overall and 4th also in class 12.
The next round of the Championship will take the crews all the way to Donegal on Saturday March the 21st next with the stages in the Pettigoe area of the county.
The opening round of the Triton showers sponsored National rally Championship was held on Sunday last February the 22nd in Abbeyleix and well done also to Club members Donal Mc Grath and co driver Liam Griffin who brought their Toyota Corolla twin cam home 84th overall and 6th in class 11R in what was a very tough and challenging event.
Paddy's day is now fast approaching and that can only mean one thing- The West Cork rally and another trip to Clonakilty. As we speak we have 31 Club members heading down there competing and many more either marshaling or helping out in some way.The very best of luck to all.
Remember we are always looking for some new members so check us out on facebook or log onto our website www.imokillymotorclub.com for all that is happening in the world of motorsport in your area

Imokilly Motor Club are delighted to announce their plans for the revival of the famous SWEEP HILLCLIMB in Dungarvan on JUNE 14th are at an advanced stage. After a number of years with this hill not running, Imokilly Motor Club members with the help of the Motorsport Irelands Hillclimb Committee set about getting this event back up and running as a non championship one day event this year. The hopes are to get this event back on the championship calendar next year.
The Sweep has a long history of motorsport in the Dungarvan area and is known the length and breadth of Ireland. It has been competed on for almost 100 years and with its two hairpin bends and fast sections is a great test of man and machine.
This year’s event will see Emmet Cronin take control as Clerk of the Course for Imokilly Motor Club. Emmet is delighted to welcome Pat & Jason Ryan Motors Youghal on board as event sponsors, adding that sponsors are very important for the future of motorsport and it’s great to see a competitor putting something back into the sport.
Emmet added that there will be a practice run and 4 timed runs on this 2.2Km course on the day. There will be a huge incentive for rally cars on the event with a prize of a free entry in the Great Stuff Caterers Imokilly Mini Stages Rally also based in Dungarvan to be raffled amongst all rally entrants. A lot of planning has already gone into the event and regulations and entry forms will be available shortly. An entry fee of just €100 will make this a cheap days motorsport for anyone with nothing to do on June 14th. Further details on this event will be on the Imokilly Motor Club websitewww.imokillymotorclub.com and on our facebook page as they become available.

A look back at 2013.
As another motorsport year draws to a close it's time to look back on the year that was 2013.
Our first event of the year was an Autotest which was held in the Corrin Event Centre near Fermoy last May. As a counting round of the Munster Autotest Championship a very good entry took to the start line on the day to negotiate the 3 tests that were laid out for the crews. All in attendance were treated to some wonderful driving skills over the course of the day and was a really enjoyable event to start off the year.
By far our biggest event took place on Saturday July the 27th last which was our Single Stage Rally based in Cloyne and sponsored by Great Stuff Caterers. 107 cars and crews took to the start line to tackle the 20km stage which would have to be repeated 3 times. After a fantastic day long battle the overall win went to Clonmel's Roy White co-driven by Coleman Hurley in their ultra quick MG Rover super 2000. This was Roy's first overall win on a rally event
and so he was delighted at the finish ramp celebrations.
Our final event of the year was a Grass Surface Autocross which was held on Sunday October the 13th last near Garryvoe. As a counting round of both the National as well as the Munster Autocross
Championships a spectacular entry descended on the field and a fabulous days racing was enjoyed by all.
In between these events many of our club members travelled many parts of the country each weekend either competing, marshaling, or helping our neighbouring clubs with their Motorsport events.
It is fair to say that 2013 was another very successful year for the club with once again many of our members and local crews filling many of the top positions in all the major Irish motorsport championships.
It's that time of year again and membership for 2014 is now due. The membership fee will remain the same as in recent years. €30 for competitors who require a club stamp for their competition licence renewal and €10 for non competing members. New members are always welcome and now is a great time to join the club and to get involved in motorsport wether as a competitor or a non competing member / organisor. Over the year's we've had many members come and go and we would love to see any of these past members coming back into the club. Check out the membership page on the club website www.imokillymotorclub.com or get in touch with us by friend requesting us on Facebook. We're also on Twitter @imcpower. So check us out.
Finally for now we at the Imokilly Motor Club would like to most sincerely thank everybody that either sponsored, marshaled, or helped out in any way on our events in 2013 . We would like to wish everybody a very happy Christmas and a safe and prosperous new year in 2014 from all at the IMC.
